MOULD DETECTION
Precision Technology for a Hidden Threat
Why We Built Our Own Detection System:
Mould is a type of fungus that grows in the form of multicellular filaments called hyphae. These hyphae form a network called a mycelium, which is often visible on surfaces as discoloured patches—commonly green, black, grey, or white.
Common types:
-
Aspergillus – often found indoors and on food
-
Penicillium – known for producing antibiotics but also grows on water-damaged materials
-
Stachybotrys chartarum – also called "black mould", associated with poor indoor air quality
Growth conditions:
-
Mould thrives in warm, damp, and poorly ventilated environments such as bathrooms, kitchens, lofts, basements, and around leaky roofs or windows.
Reproduction:
-
Mould reproduces by releasing microscopic spores into the air. These spores can settle and grow on damp, organic-rich surfaces.
Associated Health Risks Include:
-
Chronic respiratory disease
-
Immune system dysregulation
-
Neurological impairment
-
Allergic responses and mycotoxicosis
-
Fatal complications (e.g., Awaab Ishak, UK legal precedent, 2020)
Mould has been medically and legally acknowledged as a contributing factor to preventable mortality.
Common solutions:
-
Bleach and retail mould sprays: do not neutralise spores or penetrate porous surfaces
-
Generic fogging or ozone: unspecific, chemical-heavy, often misapplied
-
Contractor misrepresentation: same off-the-shelf chemicals, poor diagnostics
-
Improved ventilation
-
Dehumidification
-
Surface removal and reconstruction (plaster, wood)
None of these approaches provide complete spore detection, air quality monitoring, or source-specific neutralisation.
This is why Cirro-Pure developed a scientifically verified four stage system, beginning with MOULD DETECTION.
Cirro-Pure Mould Detection ~
Our proprietary detection methodology quantifies:
-
Spore density (spores/mm²)
-
Microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) in ppt
This allows detection in atmospheres where no visible mould is present. Detection is carried out using laboratory-calibrated instrumentation developed in-house.
